Ruth Everhart: The #MeToo Reckoning (A Kenilworth Union Church Event: Rescheduled)

NOTE: This event has been re-scheduled--keep an eye on our September 2020 events. It will NOT be happening in March.

We'll be on hand as the Kenilworth Union Church, in association with other North Shore area congregations, presents author, speaker and Presbyterian pastor Ruth Everhart, discussing her new book, The #MeToo Reckoning: Facing the Church's Complicity in Sexual Abuse and Misconduct. This event is free and open to the public, and The Book Stall will have copies of Pastor Everhart's work for sale.

About the Book:

The #MeToo movement has revealed sexual abuse in every sphere of society, including the church. But all too often, churches have been complicit in protecting abusers, reinforcing patriarchal power dynamics, and creating cultures of secrecy, shame, and silence. Disclosing candid stories of abuse, pastor and survivor Ruth Everhart offers God's hope to survivors while shining a light on the prevalence of sexual misconduct within faith communities.

"Pulling back the curtain on the mishandling of sexual abuse within Protestant churches, this incisive work from . . . Everhart boldly calls for communal repentance and change."--Publishers Weekly, starred review,

About the Author:

Ruth Everhart has been writing about sexual abuse and faith since 2012, when she began her memoir, Ruined, the deeply personal story of being raped at gunpoint at age 20, and her decade-long journey to build a new faith. It was named 2017 Book of the Year by Christianity Today Women.

She is a graduate of Calvin College and United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and has served Presbyterian (PCUSA) churches for more than 20 years, with stops in upstate New York, central Illinois, Maryland and Washington, DC. She travels widely to urge faith communities to reconsider their response to sexual abuse.

★ Publishers Weekly starred review. The #MeToo movement has revealed sexual abuse and assault in every sphere of society, including the church. But victims are routinely ignored by fellow Christians who deny their accounts and fail to bring accountability to the perpetrators.
